If you give a boy a sandwich...

If you give a boy a sandwich...

He will probably give you a little show.

He's going to think the show is hilarious and he'll probably ask for an applause.

After the applause dies down, he will ask for another bite of your sandwich.

This bite will be so big, he will ask for you napkin.

After using your napkin, he will need a big sip of water.  He will probably spill at least 80% down his shirt.

After that sandwich, he will have some energy that will require a game of peek-a-boo!

Always, always give a boy a bite of your'll lead to more adventure than you ever would have imagined! :)

Wordless Wednesday

Yep.  He is in the process of mastering door knob opening.

Such a bummer.  Go developmental skills!
Hello childproof doorknob covers that make me want to have a nervous breakdown each and every time I try to open them unsuccessfully!

Constant pointing.
Constant yelling of the word "Ah ba dah!"
Translation: I want that, please...Help me with that, please...Open that please..."
It's a multi-purpose word that gets excessive, excessive use.

No words necessary :)

A surprise dessert from Andi last week.  His favorite things...:)
Mama always made Travis put a shirt on before he could eat at the table.  (You know you're a little country when this rule is even necessary.)  If it's warm, Carter isn't allowed to wear a shirt when he eats.  It's too messy!

A Daddy-fashioned bib for the child that can't wear bibs because they bother his neck.
Yes, he's definitely mine.

He loves keys with ridiculous passion.

We learned last week that he knows to put the keys in key holes.  And the ignition.  And to turn the keys in the ignition.  And that that will crank the car.
And that ohmygosh...he just cranked the car!

My Aunt Beth is kind of a big deal.  Two Mondays, ago Steven and I thought, "It would be really fun to take a mini-vacation before Samuel is born...have some relaxation time while we just have one little one to chase around!"

But when?

We have so many plans right now...weekends nice and full of wonderful things before we have some time at home with Samuel.

Our last viable traveling weekend was the following Friday.  So we called my aunt and asked if we could visit her...on that coming Friday... for the weekend.  She automatically said "Yes, yes!"  I amazing is that?  I would have been thrown so off guard by house guests that would appear in just a few days.  My uncle was out of town, but my younger cousin and aunt decided they could show us a good time on their own :)  Carter was completely impressed by Brian's wheelchair, and Brian even let Carter ride with him in his beach wagon.

Aunt Beth is so laid-back.  We had the most reeeeeeeeelaxing mornings following by long afternoons on the beach.  It was just what we needed before the hustle and bustle of a newborn.

Aunt Beth is one of the best cooks.  Ever.  I ate an enormous amount.  Every day.  She made everything Carter loves the most and had so many of our very favorite treats.  We didn't bring a high chair for Carter so Aunt Beth pulled out a pot.  Then we made a million "Carter is sitting on the pot", "Carter loves his pot", and "Carter sure loves eating while he's on the pot" jokes.  Nonstop.  He thought he was awesome on that pot. :)

Aunt Beth lives about 5 minutes from some of the most beautiful stretches of beach ever.  If you don't go to the beach on the Gulf...change your habits  :)  The sand...the is so pretty!  It was a bit cold for getting in the water, but we all had a great time sitting in the sun and playing with Carter in the sand.

I am, in a million ways, so much like my mom.  She is one of my very best friends.  My mom and her middle sister?  Couldn't be much more different.  But in the same way that this makes them buddies, I love getting to be friends with Aunt Beth now that I'm a big, important adult :)  I want to be like her in so, so many ways.  It was so nice to spend time with her during a non-holiday event...with no rushing about or hurrying to get the next meal going.  I am so blessed to have such an abundance of amazing family.

Carter ate a lot of snacks on the beach...they were all carefully seasoned with inordinate amounts of sand.

He was so okay with that.

That is a raisin, for the curious among you.

Aunt Beth really loves my family.  She had Pop-Tarts for Steven (Carter got to try the forbidden goody for the first time as well.  His response?  "Oh wow!" he polished off the entire tart.)  Aunt Beth also pulled out a full Rubbermaid of cars for Carter to push when we arrived.  Oh. My. Gosh.  Carter might have died and gone to heaven.  He zoomed all over Aunt Beth's house pushing, throwing (unfortunately) and sliding those cars.  He was ecstatic.  Aunt Beth, on the other hand, will probably continue to find those cars under her furniture for the next decade.  See what I mean about being an amazing hostess?

Mom's youngest sister was also able to come for an afternoon and supper.  We had a lot of fun getting to see her as well!  Somehow we managed to take zero pictures of anyone but Carter...and Steven :) You'll have to just trust me that there were other people on this trip!

We could not have asked for a better mini-vacation...especially since we only had to pay for the gas to get there!  What a treat to get to go to the beach, spend time together, and hang out with Aunt Beth and Brian!  And?  Carter was pretty amazing in the car.  I mean...we stretched what the GPS promised to be an 8 1/2 hr car ride to 11 hrs.  But?  I don't think that's so bad for 32 weeks pregnant + one 19month old.  Especially when the toddler doesn't sleep in the car.  At all.  We managed by packing a million snacks that he adores and doling them out bit by bit...and letting Carter run as hard as he could every time the pregnant girl had to stop for the bathroom...which was kind of a lot!  There were only two stretches that Carter thought he was going to die...and we were able to fill those two slots with Wiggles videos via Steven's iPhone.  Thank you Apple...and the Wiggles.  You saved our bacon :)

And thanks Aunt Beth...we had so, so much fun!  You are the best!

Wordless Wednesday

Just a few more from Easter...because these were too good not to share!

Steven thinks Carter looks just like Pierce Brosnan here :)
I think he looks ridiculously edible.

He LOVES giving Samuel kisses.  Also...he has no idea there is a baby in there.  Even when he feels him indication that he thinks this is anything but normal.  I guess I have been pregnant half his little life...

Those kisses were for Samuel, but that smile is just for me :)

Walking together, looking for the moon.  Carter is hyper-compulsive about finding the moon.  It's his favorite thing right now.

My sweet boys...continuing their expedition to see the moon.  Carter just KNEW it was on the other side of this field!  Just a little while longer, and there will be another sweet boy holding Steven's other hand...we can't wait!

Wordless Wednesday: Easter

This is when you know your session is coming to a coming to an end!

Daddy's helper

All he needs now is a tool belt filled with tools.

Tools that don't actually unscrew anything please.  I am more than a little concerned at how quickly he picked up where the screwdriver went and exactly how to turn it.  It's only a matter of time before my hair dryer is in multiple pieces throughout the house!

Wordless Wednesday: NapHead

Carter has this Castillo gene.  It's scientifically called, "SleepingInferno-itis".
This gene makes the sleeping carriers body temperature rise to about 500 degrees when sleeping.  They are hot to the touch and sweaty when they wake.
Glamorous, I know.

It does give Carter the craziest hair when he wakes...a by-product of the Hancock hair that grows on his head.

That, my friends, is cheese.  His current favorite.  The more the better.
