We had sweet, sweet company all week last week so...I didn't even begin to memorize my verse.  I'll be working on this again this week.  I hope you have a great week!

Wordless Wednesday: Friends

My sweet friend and her beautiful baby girl visited and Carter had SO much fun playing together.
They love playing together...they've had a lot of practice.

Memorization Monday: 10-3-11

"However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.  If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness."
Romans 8:9-10

When I read this verse...and as I've repeated in my head over and over this week...I want to yell really churchy things out loud like, "Hallelujah!" and "Praise Jesus!"...but the sweetest thing has been the deep, abiding joy that I've noticed in my heart from resting in this verse this week.  I am NOT in the flesh of death...I have LIFE...real life because of a righteousness given to me.  And?  The Spirit of God dwells in me.  If you've known Jesus for any amount of time, you'd agree that these are basic, fundamentals of the faith...but they are joy renewed in my heart this week.

I am not characterized by the flesh.  The word "in":
inG1722 ἐν en
Thayer Definition:
1) in, by, with etc.
Part of Speech: preposition

is defining.  I am not characterized by, growing out of, or belonging to the flesh.  Instead, my attributes, characteristics, and direction are determined by the Spirit of God.

fleshG4561 σάρξsarx
Probably from the base of G4563; flesh (as stripped of the skin), that is, (strictly) the meat of an animal (as food), or (by extension) the body (as opposed to the soul (or spirit), or as the symbol of what is external, or as the means of kindred, or (by implication) human nature (with its frailties (physically or morally) and passions), or (specifically) a human being (as such): - carnal (-ly, + -ly minded), flesh ([-ly]).

Spirit: G4151 πνεῦμα pneuma pnyoo'-mah
From G4154; a current of air, that is, breath (blast) or a breeze; by analogy or figuratively a spirit, that is, (human) the rational soul, (by implication) vital principle, mental disposition, etc., or (superhuman) an angel, daemon, or (divine) God, Christ’s spirit, the Holy spirit: - ghost, life, spirit (-ual, -ually), mind. Compare G5590.

My body is collapsing year by year...but I will not mourn it's passing.  Because I have life...real that encompasses the body's ability to subsist on Earth, I rejoice.  And when there are times that are hard on my physical body...or from my limited "time on Earth" perspective...I REJOICE...because
ALIVE. in Christ.  There is nothing more important than the Spirit of God in me and the life I have in Him.  There is nothing on this Earth worth mourning because of the all surpassing greatness of LIFE.

alive: G2222 ζωή zōē
Thayer Definition:
1) life
1a) the state of one who is possessed of vitality or is animate
1b) every living soul
2) life
2a) of the absolute fulness of life, both essential and ethical, which belongs to God, and through him both to the hypostatic “logos” and to Christ in whom the “logos” put on human nature
2b) life real and genuine, a life active and vigorous, devoted to God, blessed, in the portion even in this world of those who put their trust in Christ, but after the resurrection to be consummated by new accessions (among them a more perfect body), and to last for ever.

In Him, we are made whole.  Our physical bodies will be made whole in heaven...but praise God...our spirits are alive TODAY by the Spirit of God.

Next week:
Romans 8: 11-13 (I'm just going to go down to verse 18 to complete the thought..eventually)

"But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.  So then, brethren, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live."
