35 Week Appointment

I visited the doctor again today for our 35 week appointment. (I know I've said this a million times, but I can't believe we are already at 35 weeks! It is going by so fast, and he isn't even here yet!) From now on, I will be going every week until Carter comes. He confirmed that the random pains I've been having in my back are, in fact, Braxton Hicks contractions. I thought they might be, but I really wasn't sure. Even though they are a bit uncomfortable, it's exciting that my body is preparing itself to deliver Carter...and I've read that the more Braxton Hicks contractions you have, the faster your actual labor can be. I hope so! :) Either way, it makes those back pains a lot more comfortable, knowing that they are preparing my body for labor. Dr. Lattimore did say that I didn't look very ready for labor yet (I guess my body knows it needs those practice contractions to get ready!) so it doesn't seem that I will be having Carter early! While we were there, Dr. Lattimore felt like Carter's heartbeat was a little high, so he put me on a fetal heart monitor to make sure he was okay. In the end, his heart rate was perfectly was just high for a little while because Carter was apparently pretty pumped up, moving all over the place, raising his heart rate. Are babies that are really active in the womb usually overly active children? If so, I think we may have some kind of athlete cooking, lol! Other than that, I did test positive for Group B strep...which just means I'll need an IV of antibiotics during labor to protect Carter from possible infection.
I'll let you know what the doctor says next week! Things are still going well outside of the doctor's visits. I still feel great, but I am definitely tiring out pretty quickly. Luckily, I am able to rest when I need to, and I have an amazing husband who loves me by washing dishes, loading the dishwasher, folding laundry, and distributing back rubs. He is much better at seeing when I need to rest than I am and is so good about helping me rest when I want to do, "one more thing." He is still working hard on a car project with Daddy that is wrapping up. As soon as that is done, we will be finishing the hardwoods in our bedroom to wrap up THAT project. Then, we should hopefully be done with our big things we wanted to finish by the time Carter came. YAY! Luckily, I seem to have just enough going on to keep me busy without sitting around getting anxious and impatient without having so much to do that I'm overly tired.
I'll definitely update this weekend. We will be having a sweet shower with our small group at church, and I will try to take a 36 week picture...cause I just KEEP growing! :) Have a wonderful finish to your week!

Carter can come now...the nursery is finished :)

I know that having a nursery finished does not mean it is time for a baby to arrive...but it sure makes his parents feel more prepared!  I am so excited that the nursery is finished and looks just as we hoped it would!  Steven and Daddy worked so hard on the beautiful hardwood flooring...and it looks great!  Thank you so much to our precious family and friends who helped fill the room with meaning and practical gifts that Carter will both use and enjoy!

I can't wait for him to be here to enjoy this room!  (For more pictures, click here)

In our weekend of trying to finish the nursery, we spent a lot of time in the above room :)  Maddie, always wanting to be where we are, followed us in there most of the time.  On Sunday afternoon, her tennis ball rolled under the crib, and Steven and I both walked out of the room to get various things while she was trying to reach it.  When I came back, she was like this:

I thought it was precious, so I begged her to stay and ran off for the camera.  I heard some rustling around, and I just knew I'd missed the shot.  I was so proud that she was still under the crib when I came back.  What a good stay there for me to get the camera!  I kept asking her to stay as I took a few pictures.  Finally, I called her to come to me.  I tried again.  Finally, I got close and realized that she was trying...she just didn't have room to stand up, couldn't reach anything with her paws to push off of, and couldn't get traction on the hardwoods to get out!  I felt pretty bad as I pulled her out...but not bad enough to be happy I got the picture.  (PS: She did have the presence of mind to drag the ball out with her back paws as I pulled her pup! :) )

I am now feeling a bit more giant-like...I've gained 24 pounds and I'm starting to feel all of them as I try to get comfy in chairs, bed, standing, etc.  Then I feel them all again as I try to get back up out of the aforementioned arrangements.  It really isn't bad...but it will make normal weight (whenever I see that again!) feel extra comfortable!

34's crazy how different I look from the very first picture I took chronicling this growth.  I can't believe a whole, little human being is in there!  (And in other ways, it is SO easy to believe.  I'd almost believe it if they told me there were two!)

I love my boys so much :)

Not too many more of these before Carter will be in our arms!

On Friday, Mama and I got to take a trip to Charlotte.  We were going to visit my precious roommate Bethany and her mother, Marilyn.  It was soooo good to see them.  Bethany and I have gone through so much of life together...and now our sweet babies are due two days apart!  It is so great to have such a wonderful friend preparing for her first baby while I am getting ready for Carter.  Anna Grace and Carter are some pretty loved kiddos!

Bethany and I on my wedding day...6 months after hers :)

Bethany and I now...sporting our favorite faces.  How many pictures have we taken with this face?  Sooo many!

It was so much fun to catch up with my dear friend and her wonderful mama.  I love these two women so much.  Mama and Mrs. Marilyn talked over grandparenting...while Bethany and I swapped parenting/pregnancy/birth stories.  It was such a good time!  While we were in Charlotte, Mama and I also got to visit Ikea....a store that I just LOVE.  Mama was able to find some fun, new things...and I was able to finally find curtains for Carter's room.  What a perfect store :)

There aren't too many more big plans to blog about before Carter is here.  Hopefully, I'll be doing plenty of resting...and we'll finish the hardwoods in our room...and we'll have some time to spend with friends...and then he'll be here!  Before we know it, our precious son will be in our his room....up all night :) :) :).  We will no longer just be a couple brought together by the love of Christ....but also parents!

7 weeks to go!

Things are moving so quickly now!  I feel like the weeks are just flying by...and I hope I have everything ready for Carter in 7 weeks.  People are now telling me how early all of their babies came....maybe in a few weeks that will excite me.  Right's just not all prepared for him.  Now, I'm aware that everything does not have to be in its place for a baby to come.  However, I would really like if it were :)  So...we're continuing to work hard to make sure it is!

Steven and Daddy...and even Mama and I worked on the hardwoods all last week and were able to get Carter's room and the yellow spare bedroom FINISHED!  It was just in time, since Steven's brothers and wives were staying with us this weekend.  Steven and I could have never finished this project with their help.  Here's some pictures of the progress:

Steven cutting the wood to the correct length.

Daddy measuring and outlining the more difficult pieces so Mama and I could do the easy parts :)

Mama showing Daddy what she was doing...and telling him what to do about it :)

Just like putting a puzzle together...only on this puzzle, you can cut the parts that don't fit and make them work! :)

We'll be working on our room...soon!  We are also working on a car project at the hardwoods are on temporary hold.  I will post some finished pictures when it is all laid, cleaned, and perfect :)

As I mentioned before, we had a BLAST this weekend!  The shower was just wonderful!  I didn't take any pictures at all, but Mrs. Sandra, the faithful picture-taker, did...and I am so grateful!  My sister-in-law Morgan also took a lot...but she has to edit and sort I will share those when I get them :)  Here are a few from the shower, thanks to Mrs. Sandra:
Everyone decorated a square of fabric that will be made into a fun!

Some dear, life-long was so much fun to celebrate with so many sweet friends!

Just one of the many precious gifts we received.  This is an adorable hooded towel with Carter's initials from my sweet friend Kristie.  There were so many precious gifts...we were just overwhelmed by the kindness of those who came.  Thank you so much!

Another darling gift from sweet family...I love these ladies :)  I just can't wait for Carter to rock his little heart out in this chair.

My sweet parents...are going to be amazing grandparents :)

Sweet Susanna...the best hostess of baby showers!  She worked so hard to make sure everything was just right...and I really appreciate it so much!  I really wish I would have also been able to take a picture with Mama, Ramona and Susanna.  Those three did so much to make sure the shower was a wonderful experience...and it was!  Thank you so much ladies!  You are such dear friends to me.

We played a fun game where everyone cut yarn to the length of what they guessed would be the circumference of my waist!  Jonathan won..this picture is everyone trying to steal his candy.  I tried to figure out who had cut the longest piece, but Travis wouldn't tell me...for their own protection I'm sure! :)

I couldn't post pictures of all the wonderful people who were able to come...and I have a lot of pictures that I will share coming when Morgan is able to get all of her pictures working and organized.  (Like a picture of me and that sweet Daddy-to-be! :) )  Until then, one last thank you for all of you who were able to come and for all of the sweet gifts you brought.  Steven, Carter and I were showered by your generosity...thank you!

After the shower, Steven's brothers, sister, and sister-in-laws were able to spend the night at our house!  We really had a lot of fun.  We are spread out and don't get to spend a lot of time together.  It made Saturday night and Sunday that much more special!  We had so many laughs, talks, and good memories...I am so grateful for our family :)  There will also be lots of pictures of that experience forthcoming :)

In 47 days, give or take, we will have a son!  I am so excited for that day to come...and so excited about all these days leading up to it.  Praise the Lord for all of the good, good things HE has done :)

8 weeks to go!

I can't believe how fast time is flying!  We will have a son at the end of next month!  I am still finishing the I'm a little glad there are still a full 8 weeks left.  On the other hand, I CANNOT wait to hold my baby boy!  It helps to have both sides of time perspective on my mind.  I have the feeling that as soon as I get the nursery finished, diaper bag stocked, car seat purchased, etc....I will be much less patient! :)
Speaking of the nursery, the hardwood project is underway.  Daddy and Steven have been working hard and have the hardwoods put down in Carter's room and will probably finish the yellow room tonight.  Then, all they will have left is our bedroom and putting the quarter round throughout each room (it still hasn't shipped....ergh!).  They are working soooooo hard!  It is so nice to have a sweet husband who is willing to put in so much saves us so much money!  It is also nice to have parents who are so very helpful!  I promise I will post pictures when it is all down...and all the furniture is back in the correct rooms :)
I think our schedule is finally settling down.  The month of June was just full...weekends, name it...we were booked!  It was a lot of fun, but it is also nice to settle in for a little while.  We were able to go camping with the Castillo family on Father's Day weekend, which was also Steven's birthday weekend.  We had a great was not very hot and we got to swim in the super cold Lake Jocassee pictured below (not my photography....stolen, because I managed to take zero pictures on the trip):
Devils Fork State Park
Steven has also turned a year older since I last blogged.  We were able to celebrate with my family before we left to camp, and with his family that weekend.  We are so blessed by our parents, brothers and sisters!

Also in the month of June was the Carter reunion in Florida!  It was BEAUTIFUL....but I also failed to take hardly any pictures!  However, my very super mom did take a I will share hers :)
It was pretty cloudy....the whole time we were there.  But....that did not interrupt good fun!  Luckily, we weren't stopped too much by clouds...and did not melt in the rain! :)
While we were there, my precious grandmother hosted a sweet baby shower for Carter.

Carter and I were truly "showered" with gifts from my sweet family!

You can't see all the super useful diaper boxes that are supporting the sweet gifts...but they are there...and very appreciated! :)
Mama and I had so much fun at the reunion.  (Steven and Daddy had to work...)  It was so fun to spend time with family that we don't see very often.  It was also a lot of fun to get to spend the time with Mama in the car traveling to and from Florida.  I am one lucky daughter :)
When we got home, I had two hospital classes and a doctor's appointment.  They were all great.  The doctor said my weight was just where it should be (23 pounds now!), blood pressure was perfect, measured where I should, and he said that it seems like Carter has turned to head down position now.  :)  All things were healthy, so he scheduled to see me again in two weeks.  I am just so unbelievably grateful for such a healthy, enjoyable pregnancy.  I haven't had any of that "hormonal hot" feeling (I'm just normal hot like everyone else right now! lol) and I am really able to do almost everything I am non-pregnant (that the doctor and Steven allow)  Maddie and I have been able to walk almost every morning and my garden is still getting attention (early in the morning before it's hot!).  I am needing more breaks after standing for too long...but I can say that I truly feel great!  I am really enjoying this little life growing inside me...and can't wait to hold him in my arms.  Speaking of holding Carter in my arms...Steven and I went to a Childbirth Preparation class on Saturday.  It was really a great class...and taught us a lot about the process , tips, common misconceptions, relaxation techniques, etc.  We really enjoyed it...and it made me a million times more grateful for Steven.  I have no idea how people go through childbirth without a husband to walk them through it.  I know women do it all the time...I just don't know how!  Having Steven who loves me no matter what, loves Carter more than life itself, and is willing to do anything for either one of us makes a HUGE difference in the way I will feel walking into the Labor and Delivery room.  I know it won't be an easy experience, but I am so grateful for my husband to support me through it!  The last thing we will do to prepare is go on a tour on the facilities in August.  (oops...I forgot to schedule it before then!)  We will get to do a step-by-step tour from where to park to when they send me home...I think that will be so helpful....just knowing where we are makes me feel a million times better!
I am also super excited about Saturday!  My sweet Susanna and Travis are hosting a baby shower for Carter.  I am so pumped to get to see family and friends that I don't get to see very much...and ones that I just love to see!  I love things like this....I think I'm addicted to getting to catch up with people...and talking.  The one drawback is the way I can never STOP talking...and can hardly get all the way around the room!  :)  I will be sure to post pictures and stories as soon as I can :)  I will also post a "horizontal growth" picture soon...gotta keep those records :)
     Until then....
