Just a little update!

There isn't any real news to post, I just felt that I might give everyone a little update.  I keep wanting to take a picture to show how things are progressing...but they're not really!  (The baby is...I just can't tell yet!)  Some days, I feel really pregnant and I can really tell a difference in the ways my clothes fit.  Other days, I can't tell a big difference at all and have to put all my belts back on to keep my pants up!  (I read and people tell me that this is just bloating...yuck.)  So I guess I'll  add a picture when you can tell a real difference!
However, I can definitely tell I'm pregnant.  I've never been this tired in my life.  And some days...I am STARVING!  I think the baby must have growth spurts.  I will feel as if I am a bottomless pit one day, and feel no more hungry than any normal day in my "pre-pregnancy" life the next.  It's been interesting to hear people's comments on this.  So many people have offered great advice and comments.  There are a lot of super things people have told me that I am SO grateful for.  And there are also a million things that make me want to say, "I'm pregnant...get a filter!"  So, as a reminder to those around pregnant friends:

  • Every pregnancy is different.  There are very few quit telling people the bad stories!  They may not even happen to me!  Why tell someone something bad that could happen...when it probably was an isolated situation?  Haha...just tell me the good stuff.  I bet I'll notice the bad stuff all on my own!
  • Filter out any desire to tell pregnant couples how much life changes when you have kids...unless you mean in a good way!  There are so many people who talk about having children as if it were the day life ended for them.  Geez!  We like kids...that's why we're having them!
  • Please tell pregnant ladies that you can see, "the little one!" or something like that.  Saying that you're starting to see a little "pudge" does not give us the warm fuzzies!
  • Tell us the best stories ever about pregnancy and raising children...and all the things you'd wish you'd known....we love that!
Just case you remotely wanted or desired that unsolicited guidance!  I will say that I am really enjoying pregnancy so far!  I'm queasy all the time...and so tired...but so excited!  We're really ready to know if this little one is a boy or a girl so we can do more preparation.  I can't wait to start getting things together!
On another note, we have some names that we really love.  A lot can happen in 7 months, but we are really loving these names so far.  For a boy, we really like Carter Steven Castillo.  Carter is my mother's maiden name and we really wanted to use Steven as our son's middle name.  We really wanted to name a little girl after my grandmother, Genella Kennedy Hancock.  Steven came up with Ella Kennedy Castillo.  I am excited that both names include a namesake that my children can look up to as they grow up.  If this sweet baby is anything like my Grandpa Carter and Steven or Ma, then we'll have one precious baby.
As a last update, you'll be happy to know that this baby already has several onesies/pairs of socks that represent the wonderful Alabama football team! (Thanks Daddy!)  Roll Tide!

We got to see the baby!

We went for our second appointment today and got to have our first ultrasound!  We had sooooo much fun!  The baby is approximately 2 cm long (about the size of a gummy worm) and had a heartbeat of 177 bpm.  We got to hear the little heart beat just pumping quickly!  We could also see his/her little arms waving around.  We couldn't see the legs or the profile of the face that well because the baby was standing on its head!  (Why am I not surprised that our baby was on its head during photography time!?!)  Steven and I agreed it was one of the most precious, best moments of our lives!  The doctor said we are measuring 8 weeks and 3 days, so our due date is still August 29th!
I've been blessed that I have not been terribly nauseated...just so very tired!  However, I think my body deserves to complain about tiredness a's making a whole new person!  Other than that, I can't really tell any major differences.  I haven't gained enough weight to feel or look pregnant, so seeing the ultrasound was about as pregnant as I've felt!
I will go back on February 17th, as I approach the end of my first trimester.  Until then, I'll be sure to keep you all updated as the baby and I keep growing!

I know you can't see these really, really well...but I had trouble making them larger...
However, if you click on the picture, you can see a fairly large shot.  :)

Husband of the Year

I must say, Steven gets the husband of the year award.  He has been so patient with my little pregnant self.  Last night, I came home starving.  He had put some baked spaghetti from the freezer in the oven to bake (after it had been in the refrigerator thawing for over 24 hours!).  By the time I got home, it was still frozen solid in the middle.  As my eyes began to well up (I honestly haven't cried over anything else with these pregnancy hormones...I was just so tired and hungry!) Steven jumped up, left the house, and picked up my favorite meal from Chick-fil-A.  Today, he put me to bed as soon as I got home from school.  By the time I got up, he had fixed supper, done a load of laundry, gave Maddie a bath, and worked on some maintenance issues on the house.
I really hope I'm not super whiny/needy/babyish through this pregnancy.  However, it means so much that Steven is willing to do so much without even being asked as we walk through this queasy/exhausted phase.  I am so grateful for such a super husband.  This baby is sure lucky to have such a great Daddy!

The Beginning of Our Journey

Steven and I have been so blessed by our family, marriage, and friends in this adventure we have shared so far.  The Lord has now given us the sweetest, most precious blessing in the world by giving us a baby to love, cherish, and bring glory to Him.  We are humbled by this honor and are so excited!  I am, today, 7 weeks and 2 days pregnant with our first baby.  (He/she is approximately the size of a blueberry right now!)  My official due date is August 29th.  We will return to the doctor on the 20th for a complete physical and ultrasound.  Our goal with this blog is to chronicle our journey and story for friends and family in hopes that you will join us in prayer for a healthy pregnancy and baby.  We also hope that in writing our story, we will remember this special chapter in our life.
"Behold, children are a gift of the LORD,
The fruit of the womb is a reward."  Psalm 127:3

Below are some pictures we captured while sharing our news!
